The tree is an aesthetical feature apparent when the game's first version released. Originally, the trees' leaves had about the same color as grass. However, this was changed due to the trees looking like "a hollow outline against the grass." The tree is solid and you cannot walk through it, but part of the trunk is omitted in the hitbox so that the player can have the effect of "brushing up" against them. In the future, trees will be climbable, if the player has the correct gem. In the future, trees will bear fruit in varying intervals, and fruit has restore your health much more than a berry. It is unknown where berries will come from.
